Yesterday the California parole board denied Elizabeth Betty Broderick an early chance of release.
In 1989 Betty shot her prominent ex husband and his new wife in bed. At that time Elizabeth was full of anger and fury. Elizabeth had just found out that her famous Harvard trained lawyer had left her for his gorgeous legal assistant.
She was very upset about his affair and left numerous foul mouth messages on his answering machine. Then one Sunday morning, she surreptitiously crept into the house and shot both her husband and his new wife to death.
The parole board felt that she still has not shown any remorse and appears to be angry.
At the board meeting yesterday afternoon, Betty made statements that appeared to lack any sense of guilt or empathy for her victims.
Said San Diego Deputy District Attorney Richard Sachs, “She was totally not remorseful, didn’t even try.”
Added Sachs: “The most compelling argument is she has failed to achieve any real insight into taking responsibility for what she’s done. She hasn’t done the work to realize she didn’t have the right to sneak into somebody’s house and take two lives.”
Broderick 62 has always tried to play the part of a victim and her story has generated several books and TV movies.
Broderick won’t qualify for another parole hearing until 2025.
