Best Cyber Monday Deals
Posted by Anne Cordova in Daily News on November 28, 2009
Internet retailers announced this week an aggressive set of deals starting Monday morning for what’s known as “Cyber Monday,” the internet answer to “Black Friday.” Cyber Monday deals are often better than Black Friday deals because internet retailers have less real estate overhead that must be passed on to consumers. Orders are down across the board for high end electronics like HD televisions, Play Stations and XBoxes, as consumers cut costs, so many retailers including Dell and Best Buy have drastically cut prices in the hopes of attracting more sales this holiday seasons. Many online retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and Zappos are conducting contests in an effort to raise traffic on Monday, traditionally the best internet shopping day of the year.
Usually, cyber monday is relatively low key, which most retailers spending the bulk of their advertising dollars on Black Friday, but this year, an interesting trend has emerged. Throughout the past week, retailers have been actively marketing internet discounts for Cyber Monday, and even office supply giant Staples has gotten into the holiday marketing season, competing with highly competitive prices on a wide variety of electronic items in an effort to undercut big electronic retailers like Best Buy, Tiger Direct and Amazon.
With the economy still under-preforming, experts believe that Cyber Monday deals this year could be of record proportions. It is also expected that deals will continue throughout the holiday season.
Black Friday Deals Lead to Cyber Monday Deals
Posted by Anne Cordova in Daily News on November 28, 2009
Shoppers were greeted today with one of the few pleasant side effects of the difficult economy – this year’s black Friday deals were very aggressive, with retailers from Best Buy, to WalMart, to KMART to Staples offering deep discounts in the hopes of luring price conscious consumers. Best Buy even offered $500.00 gift cards to the first 1000 consumers who called a special toll free number Thursday night. Probably the most interesting price battle was between Wal Mart and KMART, each of whom had their own set of deep discounts. An internet war between the two retailers took place in the week leading up to Black Friday, the day on which American retailers generally move from red to black each year.
Black Friday sales are expected to last through the weekend, which leads right into the best day of the year for online retailers – “Cyber Monday.” Online retailers from Amazon.com to Zappos.com to Dell are expected to offer deep discounts in the hope of earning business this holiday season. In preparation, most online retailers are already hyping huge discounts for shoppers starting Monday morning. Many are also using gimmicks, with free giveaways and the like.
The economic downturn over the past 18 months has led to slow sales, and dramatically lower profit margins for retailers who can no longer command the kind of prices they were getting only a year ago.
Online Black Friday Deals
Posted by Anne Cordova in Daily News on November 27, 2009
Most people seem to think that black Friday deals are only available at retail stores. While this was the case many years ago, today many stores offer online shopping with the same prices as the retail stores.
Some of the best places for online shopping and black Friday deals are Amazon and Wal-Mart. Amazon has major discounts on every product that it sells. Everything from books, videos, TV, DVDs, digital cameras, office accessories, apparel, home furnishings, mobile phones and toys has some type of discount. Unlike retail shopping, online shopping means no standing in line and the ability to carefully browse and compare prices.
Wal-Mart the over leader when it comes to retail discounts also has an extensive list of online products. Wal-Marts online web pages are comprehensive, offer complete information on all products and probably has the best prices in town. Moreover, not many stores can match wal-mart’s refund or return policies.
The one major disadvantage of online shopping is when it comes to garments. While some clothes may look nice online, clothes usually have to be tried out. So for clothes, most experts recommend going to a store- and of course, this applies more to women than men, as the former are fussier when it comes to looking nice.
So if you are a couch potato and hate crowds, try surfing online for your black Friday deals. If you are careful, you can get a lot better deals than going to a store.

Wall Mart Black Friday Specials
Posted by Anne Cordova in Daily News on November 27, 2009
For the individual with little money to spend but a lot of gifts to buy, the best place on this planet to get black Friday specials is Wal-Mart. Wall-mart is the ultimate store and while this discounted store always has specials, Black Friday has more bargains for customer. In almost every department, Wal-Mart has specials. Acer brand laptops for under $300, 32 inch Samsung LCD HDTV for $378 and so on. Another great bargain is the Sony Blu Ray Dis player for $118. There is not a category that has not been cut in prices. The great thing about Wal-Mart is that it has more variety than many other stores and sells everything from electronics, video games, toys, things for the home, apparel and outdoors. However, for the consumer it is important to be prepared. While Wal-Mart has many great items, there are also many no name brands which are cheap but may not last till Christmas. So before rushing to Wal-Mart, make a list of what you want, and compare the prices on line.
One other great feature about Wal-Mart shopping is that most items can be bought online at the same price as the retail store. Love it or hate it, Wal-Mart is still the king when it comes to Black Friday specials. Wal-Mart is holding black Friday specials thought-out this weekend and has extended hours at all retails stores. Of course, online shopping is 24 hours.
Tryptophan & Depression
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 27, 2009
Tryptophan is one of the essential amino acids that the body needs for protein metabolism. Unlike plants, humans cannot make tryptophan and thus, get it from the diet. Without tryptophan one cannot build muscle and many other important chemicals like neurotransmitters. Tryptophan is available in many foods including chocolate, oats, milk, yogurt, poultry, eggs and many types of seeds.
Health food stores market tryptophan as a cure for a few mental disorders, especially depression and seasonal mood disorder. While there are lots of anecdotal reports that tryptophan can ease depression or premenstrual dysphoric disorder, reliable clinical data are lacking.
In the body, tryptophan is synthesized into an important chemical known as 5 hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). 5-HT is a vital chemical and plays an important role as a messenger in many nerves. It is widely believed that low levels of 5-HT may be the cause of depression and that is the reason why many of the novel anti depressants prevent the breakdown of 5HT.
About 2 decades ago; tryptophan was associated with a serious muscle disorder and caused a number of deaths. It was banned for a few years but is now back on the market. Today, tryptophan is widely available in food stores, but its quality and quantity remain suspect.
Health care experts claim that many such products arrive from the Orient where fakes and counterfeit products are common- so in the end it is a buyer beware market when it comes to health supplements like tryptophan
Black Friday Sale Ads 2009

Perhaps the financial analysts are right; the recession has come to an end. It is expected that Black Friday is going to be a boom day for both shoppers and businesses in most places in America. Recent surveys indicate that more people are going to go out shopping than the previous black Friday last year. It is estimated that close to 134 million people are going to hit the shops on Friday and the upcoming weekend, following thanksgiving. This number is up by 5 percent from 128 million the year before.
Said NRF President Tracy Mullin in an announcement, “Regardless of what we’ve already seen these last few weeks in terms of promotions, retailers still have a few tricks up their sleeves to excite Black Friday shoppers.”
Tracy says shoppers are expecting mega discounts and will not be disappointed on the cost of goods like toys, electronics and clothing. Of course, for many businesses it is a do or die situation and they have gone all out to reduce prices to make up for the lost summer sales.
Black Friday, the day after thanksgiving is expected to be a busy day for most department and discount stores. Surveys indicate that most people have set their eyes on stores like Wal-Mart, Best buy and Sears. While the public is in the mood to buy, it is not at the expense of buying expensive products- everyone is looking for a bargain.
Surveys indicate that by far, most individuals will go to the electronic stores (41%), followed by clothing retailers (36%) and 29 % will be busy buying groceries. At least 28% percent of shoppers indicate they will be busy shopping online, which is now a major part of most businesses in America.
To allow shoppers more time to buy, most stores have extended their working hours the entire weekend.
Because of the availability of door buster sales, at least 10% of bargain shoppers have said they will head to the stores as early as midnight. The majority of discount shoppers are expected to be in line by 9 am and so a mad rush is expected everywhere.
Wal-Mart already has many stores open 24 hours but will ensure that the other stores also extend the hours for shoppers.
Best Buy Mania
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 26, 2009
For people who are still looking for bargains at a great price, Best Buy is a store worth while visiting. Even though the store is officially closed today, the online website for purchasing items is functioning fine. However, black friday deals are only available tomorrow. The door buster specials are set to start at 5 am on Nov 27. And what are the best buy bargains?
Some of the great deals include the HP lap top with intel Celeron processor for only $197, the Dynes flat screen 32 inch HDTV at $299 and the Garmin nuvi portable GPS for 99.99, just to mention a few. There are specials and big discounts on many other items, but the wise customer should take time and compare prices with other department stores like Wal-Mart before waiting in a long line at 5 am.
Best buy says tickets will be handed on as early as 3 am for select items
In any case, dress warm and make a list of what you want. Unfortunately, the discount merchandise have no rain checks and shipping is not free.
