Death at Nutty Putty
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 26, 2009
John Edwards Jones, 26, the young man trapped in the crevice at the Nutty Putty Caves in Stansbury park, Utah was killed as rescuers desperately tried to save him, say Utah authorities. Jones was trapped upside down in a crevice that only 18 inches wide and 10 inches deep. He was trapped tightly in the middle of one of the narrowest crevices and could not move.
Said Sgt Spencer Cannon, “They had him to a level spot where he wasn’t heading downhill with his head below his feet.” Cannon added, “During the course of that, they have a raising system to hold him in position, and one of the devices of that system failed, and Mr. Jones actually fell back to the area where he had been stuck for so long.”
Rescuers were called to assist Jones soon after he got stuck but had a hard time getting to him because of the difficult and treacherous terrain.
“Getting people to him is very difficult,” Cannon said just before Jones died. “It is a tightly confined space. When there is movement, it is literally millimeters at a time.”
Nutty Putty Cave is a minor tourist attraction where visitors crawl on their bellies and move around different parts of the cave. Located about 28 miles west of Salt Lake City, the town of Stansbury attracts about 5,000 tourists each year.
Dalia Dippolito- professional escort!
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 25, 2009
Recently it was reported that Dalai Dippolito, the woman who tried to get her husband killed was a professional escort. This makes more sense as it is a wonder how one can meet another person who wants to have them killed after marriage.
In a recent sworn statement with Boynton Beach law officials the husband, Michael Dippolito, said that he met his future wife while she was working as an escort.
“She’s actually an escort,” he said in the interview released this week. “That’s how I met her. She came to my office one day. I called her and solicited her to the office and she came. After that one time “we started dating.” He goes on to add, “Pretty much, we were on a fast-track relationship, getting along great.”
Soon after things began to take a different but ominous turn.
These new revelations come after Dalia Dippolito was arrested after solicitation to commit first degree murder. The pair had just been married less than 6 months and law enforcement experts claim that Dalia made at least 3 botched attempts to have her husband killed.
The first attempt of Michael’s murder was sometime soon after marriage when Dalia brought him coffee spiked with anti freeze. The story gets more interesting as police records show that Dalia even planted drugs in the car to get Michael arrested. After this failed attempt, Dalia tried to have Michael killed. The final attempt was when she tried to get someone to kill her husband. However, cops were alerted by now and her attempt to solicit the services of a “fake hitman” was videotaped and recorded. The police even set up a fake murder scene to convince Dalia that her husband was dead.
Dalia has continued to remain stubborn and made audacious statements. More will be revealed when the trial commences unless Dalia pleads guilty and decides to write a book.

Reflecting Back on Jesse Owens- An American track Icon
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 25, 2009
While many people forget who won the gold medal at last summer’s Olympic 100 or 200 meters race, almost everyone has heard of Jesse Owens. This American superstar achieved international fame by winning four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics. What is more remarkable he did at a time when he faced prejudice because of his skin color in every aspect of his life. Even though he was an outstanding college athlete, Jesse was never awarded a track scholarship and was not even allowed to eat in restaurants of his choice- he was only limited to “black only” eateries.
After winning the Olympic gold medals, Jesse once stated, “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was FDR who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.” During their terms as presidents, neither Franklin Roosevelt or Harry Truman invited Jesse Owens to the White House nor bestowed any honors on him.
Since those days, America has moved forward and we even have an African American president. America has amended its ways and today JO is a national hero for many track athletes. On March 28, 1990, he was posthumously granted the Congressional Gold Medal by former President George H. W. Bush.
All over the country, Jesse Owens has been recognized. Besides being inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, there are some sports arenas named after the great legend.
At the recent 2009 World Athletic Championships in Berlin, all those who participated with the US Track & Field team wore labels with “JO” to honor Jesse’s triumphs in the same stadium where Hitler refused to shake his hand.
Eid Al Adha
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 25, 2009
Eid al Adha better known as the festival of sacrifice is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world. The holiday remembers the readiness of Ibrahim to surrender his son Ismail as an act of submission to GOD.
Based on the Muslim lunar calendar, Eid al Adha falls on the 10th day of the month, Dhul Hijja or November 26/27 of the traditional Gregorian calendar year. The festival lasts for 2-4 days depending on which Arabic country one resides. Typically Eid al Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims carrying out Hajj descend from mount Arafat. It typically happens to be about 70 days after the end of the fasting month, Ramadan.
During the Eid festival, all Muslims are expected to dress in their best clothing and appear for prayers at the local mosques. For those who can afford it, lamb, camel, goat or cows are sacrificed as a sign of Ibrahim’s surrender. The religious holiday also encourages charity to ensure that no other Muslim is left without food or clothing during these 3 days. Like Christmas, gifts are exchanged and there is plenty to eat.
This year Eid al Adha is expected to fall on November 27, 2009. The precise date cannot be forecast ahead of time because of the flexible nature of the Islamic lunar calendar. Estimates are based on the anticipated visibility of the crescent shaped moon following a new moon.
All about Xanthomas
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 25, 2009
Xanthomas are small pigmented skin lesions that may occur around the eyelids. They are usually yellow in color, soft to touch and may be raised slightly. Xanthomas are most common on the inner aspect of the eyelid just next to the bridge of the nose. While many people do develop xanthomas sporadically, Xanthomas are most common in people who have high cholesterol levels- which is also indicative of an increased risk of coronary artery disease (heart attacks).
When Xanthomas are analyzed, they are usually found to contain high levels of cholesterol deposits. In some cases Xanthomas may spontaneously occur on outer aspect of the elbow when fat levels get high in the blood.
Xanthomas are not contagious nor are they harmful. Health care professionals with basic knowledge can easily make a diagnosis of a xanthoma by visual inspection. There is generally no need to perform a biopsy. Once a xanthoma has been diagnosed, the next test is to ensure that the individual does not have high levels of cholesterol. The treatment of eruptive xanthoma is diet, exercise and sometimes lipid lowering medications.
Xanthomas should not be surgically removed; even though many unscrupulous plastic surgeons have now been offering this therapy to patients- many Xanthomas spontaneously regress. The major reason for treating xanthoma is comesis but there is no medical reason to remove them.
Tyler Perry donates $1 million
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 25, 2009
American actor, screenwriter and producer, Tyler Perry today announced that he has donated $1 million to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to memorialize the 100th anniversary of the civil rights group.
Tyler Perry has been a very successful actor and his movies have grossed nearly $400 million world wife. Last year alone, it is estimated that he made close to $125 million as the first black film maker to possess a major TV and film studio. Tyler has had a lot of success in business and has had several successful TV shows, a bestselling book and a number of flourishing stage plays.
Tyler dropped out of school at the age of 16 but worked very hard to achieve his dream. Among Tyler’s close friends include Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.
Spokesperson for the NAACP said the gift is very welcome at a critical time in the organizations history. In an announcement, Perry stated that the determination of many people within the NAACP helped establish the way for success of many black Americans in the American art and film industry.
NAACP leaders say the financial donation is a major deviation in black philanthropy. In the past such big donations have not gone to civil right groups. For the NAACP, the gift may help solve financial issues but the agency still does not know what the future holds.
This is not the first time Tyler Perry has performed charity. In July 2009, Perry paid for 65 children from a Philadelphia day camp to fly to Walt Disney World after discovering that the Valley Swim Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. had discriminated against the children because of color. That incident made Perry write on his website, “I want them to know that for every act of evil that a few people will throw at you, there are millions more who will do something kind for them.”
All about Riboflavin
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 24, 2009
Everyone these days is into label reading and wanting to take vitamins. One such vitamin which is widely consumed by people is riboflavin. Riboflavin is also known as Vitamin B2 and commonly found in many vegetables and fruits. It is essential for a number of certain enzymatic processes in the body.
Most people obtain riboflavin by eating cheese, leafy green vegetables, drinking milk, consuming legumes, yeast, mushrooms or liver.
Riboflavin is essentially a safe vitamin and easily absorbed from the gut. Excess ingestion is usually excreted by the body. The only side effects of excess riboflavin are an occasional headache and dark yellow urine.
Riboflavin is found in many processed foods including baby foods, cereals, pasta, fruit drinks, milk products and pasta. Riboflavin is quite stable as long as the vitamin is kept away from light.
Riboflavin deficiency is extremely rare and only occurs in individuals who have a poor diet, have had extensive intestinal surgery or are not able to absorb the vitamin. Other than that most people do not need to take extra riboflavin. Experts claim that eating fruits and vegetables provides adequate vitamin B2 and consumption of pills is not necessary. Moreover, one shouldn’t forget that there are ample fake vitamin products and over the years, contamination of vitamins supplements has also been reported. Bottom line- eat a cardboard like pill or a delicious fruit?
Inflammatory breast cancer
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 24, 2009
There are several types of breast cancer but probably the most aggressive is what is known as inflammatory breast cancer. This rare cancer accounts for about 5% of all breast cancers in North America. It tends to occur more commonly in younger females, and is slightly more common in African Americans than Caucasian females.
Unlike other breast cancers which present with a breast lump, inflammatory breast cancer typically presents with redness, swelling and warmth around the breast. Usually there is no mass felt. Often the skin will appear pink- reddish and the ridges may have pits (often referred to as peau d’orange or color of an orange peel). Other patients may complain of breast tenderness or a burning sensation. The symptoms usually occur rather quickly over a period of few months. This presentation is often mistaken by physicians as an infection or some type of skin rash.
The diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer is based on the physician’s suspicion and a biopsy is definitely required for diagnosis. Mammograms and ultrasound are usually two other radiological studies done to look for a mass in the breast. Once the biopsy has proven positive, the treatment of this cancer is based on a combination of chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy or some type of hormonal treatment.
Because this cancer is somewhat aggressive, new therapies are consistently being devised. Currently there are some trials sponsored by the National Cancer institute where targeted therapy is used to treat this cancer. Participation in clinical trials is an option for patients with this cancer. The prognosis of inflammatory breast cancer depends on its stage.
Camden is Number one for Danger
Posted by Daily News in Daily News on November 24, 2009
The most dangerous city to live in North America is Camden, NJ followed by St. Louis, MO. Rounding up the top 5 include Oakland, Detroit and Flint MI. The safest city in the nation is Colonis, New York.
Camden was named the most dangerous city for 2009 based on a CQ press which keeps a tab on violent crimes on close to 400 cities in America.
Camden located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia has always been a city with many troubles. This city has a population of nearly 80,000 with a racial makeup of 53% African Americans, 17% Caucasians and the rest made up of Latinos, Asians, Pacific islanders, Native Americans and other races.
The city is also poor and the average per capita income is only $9,815 with close to 44% of the population living below the poverty line- the highest in the nation.
Camden, unfortunately has been passed over for redevelopment for decades. Most Major Corporations have moved out and the downtown is practically devoid of any major businesses.
In 2002, Camden was ranked as the 3rd most dangerous city in America- the chief reason for the crime has been linked to high unemployment and poverty. In 2007, the city had a homicide rate of 53.2 per 100,000 population and this is lightly below the national average.
The city is continuing to struggle with the economic recession and unless state and federal authorities step in and introduce some type of economic package, Camden’s infamous number one ranking will be there for some time to come.
