Veteran actor Johnny Delgado passed away on Thursday after a long battle with a lymphoma. The famous Filipino actor was 61 years old.
Delgado was diagnosed with cancer in early 2008 and was reported to be doing quite well. However during the later part of this year, it appeared that the cancer had grown and had become resistant to chemotherapy. Said his daughter Ina also an actress, “Daddy put up a good fight and did not want to leave his family. Daddy was a very religious man. His faith kept him strong. We told him not to worry about us and to just rest. We didn’t want him to suffer anymore so we asked him to simply let go.”
Johnny Delgado born as Juan Marasigan Feleo in real life, died at his home in Quezon City, Philippines, with his whole family at his bedside.
In late summer, he developed complications from the cancer which required abdominal surgery and after that he was too weak and continued to deteriorate.
A few days ago, Delgado was admitted to the St. Luke’s Medical Center after vomiting blood and becoming drowsy. Said his daughter, “He left the hospital two days later. Daddy said he just wanted to go home,”
Delgado was the son of film director Ben Feleo and appeared in more than 60 movies and had appearances in many TV shows over the past 40 years.
His last project written and directed by him was a small play entitled the “labing labing”, where he teamed up with his wife, playing the role of a married couple.
Delgado is survived by his wife, laurice Guillen and his two daughters Ana and Ina Feleo.
