There is sad news from the world of fashion this am. One of South Korea’s top models, Daul Kim was found dead. It appears that she committed suicide by hanging. Daul Kim, 20, was a most sought after fashion model and had been a regular on fashion shows in New York, Milan, Tokyo and Paris.
While everything does point to suicide, official cause of death will be announced after French police get more details. Kim’s agent, Alessandra Bertoldini only said that the model’s mother will be arriving from Korea this morning but had nothing more to add.
Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea and had lived in several places; she was a well known model in Asia and modeled for top fashion designers like Chanel, Dries van Noten and Masion Martin Margiela and many others. Just a few weeks ago she was seen at a Seoul fashion show. However, close colleagues say she felt exhausted and tired.
Kim was most famous for her thick hair which she often dyed blonde. At 5 foot 8 inches and a well sculpted body, Daul Kim had an eccentric sense of humor, say sources. Besides her modeling career, Kim was also fond of painting and cultural activities.
Friends of Kim say that she was depressed over the past few months and felt over worked and lonely. She also made numerous entries on her blog that she was tired and felt that the modeling career was unrewarding.
South Korea, like Japan, has one of the highest rates of suicides, especially among the young and middle aged individuals. Just last May, former president Roh Moo hyun jumped to his death while being investigated for a business scandal. A year ago, top Korean actress, Chopi Jin sil committed suicide.
